Tradies health month - How we can help you stay on the tools.

August marks Tradies Health Month, with the aim to highlight the importance of tradies looking after their overall health and wellbeing. The day to day physical demands of trade occupations can place significant stress and strain on bodies. According to research approximately 60% of tradies experience some form of pain which is related to their job. If left untreated this can limit work capacity and possibly lead to a stint off the tools and loss of income.

Common injuries vary across differing trade professions. Common injuries we see and treat in the clinic include:

  • Lower back pain

  • Overuse injuries (including tennis/golfers elbow, achilles tendinopathy)

  • Muscle strains

  • Rotator cuff (shoulder) injuries

  • Neck issues

  • Knee pain

These injuries often arise due to a number of occupational demands including:

  • Repetitive lifting and carrying of objects which are often heavy.

  • Completing overhead activities consistently, repetitively and often holding these postures for prolonged periods of time.

  • Frequent and prolonged kneeling, often on hard surfaces.

  • Poor ergonomics/postures/positioning.

  • Repetitive activities/movements.
